The Supporting Documents You Need for an I-485
Applying for a Marriage-Based I-485
For marriage-based green cards, the applicant must prove both the legitimacy of the marriage and their eligibility for adjustment of status.
Primary Required Documents:
Marriage Certificate – Certified copy to prove the legal basis of the relationship.
Proof of Termination of Prior Marriages (if applicable) – Divorce decree, annulment order, or death certificate for either spouse.
Proof of Petitioner’s U.S. Citizenship or Green Card Status:
U.S. birth certificate.
Naturalization or citizenship certificate.
